Marx Trains were made by The Louis Marx & Co. toy manufacturers. They were produced from 1919 to mid-1970’s.
At one time The Louis Marx & Co. had three toy manufacturing plants in the US, and many manufacturing plants overseas. The Marx toy trains were manufactured in the Gerard, PA plant.
Due to a poor economy, plus less model train enthusiasts during the 1970’s, the Marx train stopped being produced in mid-1970’s
Although historically, Lionel Trains were popular and good quality trains, they were also expensive, and everyone could not afford them. In comes Louis Marx who obtained the Joy Line brand of wind-up trains from a Pennsylvania toy company in 1938.
Back then, this was a fairly cheap line of trains, and the Marx Company grew their own line of trains from this beginning. These trains were more affordable, and were popular until the company went out of business in the ’70’s.
Recently, the Marx train line has been revived, and are again available to run and collect.
